January Citizenship trip to Norfolk cancelled

Posted on Dec 13 2020 - 12:58am

With the increasing incidents of corona virus and accompanying government restrictions, Troop 214 is going to play it safe and skip our January trip next month.  Besides the fact that we have been shut out of our favorite place to stay in Norfolk, the barracks at the Naval Station, there is little point in going on a trip where there are no tours or activities available for us to do.  The PLC will be discussing ideas for a substitute trip for that weekend -- keep in touch with your Patrol Leader and send him ideas!

Merit badge interest survey

From the Senior Patrol Leader

Since we are no longer on a month-by-month basis regarding merit badges, different merit badges will be instructed in a shorter time frame.  This should help anyone who has incomplete badges to finish them and hopefully begin new ones that would otherwise go unnoticed.  Please fill out any merit badges you need to complete, or any that seem interesting for us to do!

Congratulations to the newly elected troop leaders!

We're back!!

Posted on Jun 8 2020 - 8:46pm

Greetings Troop 214 families,

We hope this email finds you all healthy and safe in these crazy times we’re living in.

As restrictions are lifting, and school is out, the PLC and adult leaders have decided to start phasing back into our activities. I know the E-Blast said we would not be meeting tomorrow, but since the curfew restrictions have been lifted today, we ARE going to meet. We will be following NCDHHS and Old North State Council guidelines. We’ll meet outside at the upper shelter of the Spears Y. We’ll observe social distancing and if you have masks, please wear them. I will bring hand sanitizer as well.

This will actually be an important meeting. We have to hold elections since Covid-19 hit before we could do so in March. We’re hoping that we can meet this Tuesday before many folks head out for vacations. I know some of you may already be gone, but hopefully the majority of Scouts can attend. Any Scout interested in running for ASPL, please Be Prepared. We’ll hold PL elections first, then ASPL, then fill the other leadership positions. If you are out of town and can’t attend, please let your current Patrol Leader know what position you would like to run for.

I’m sure most of you are tired of being cooped up and I look forward to resuming our Scouting activities.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Mr. Munson

Updates on summer trips -- there is good news, and there is bad news

Posted on May 17 2020 - 1:24am

Over the course of the past few days we have had the following two developments.

First, the bad news.  Sadly, Camp Daniel Boone, after an agonizing decision process, has chosen to cancel their 2020 Summer Camp program due to too many variables regarding the restrictions that may still be in place here in NC and also in the home locations of the camp participants who are in 20 different states.  The camp will be making a full refund of all monies paid for our reservation.  It is unknown whether there are any alternate camp options which may be available for Troop 214 to attend but it is certainly something that can be considered.

The good news is for those signed up for the Florida sailing trip in late July.  At this time, Sea Base plans to conduct the treks scheduled for later in the summer.  And fortunately, plans for our trek are moving forward -- the open slots on our crew reservation have been filled!  We have connected with another troop in Atlanta that has three Scouts and one adult who were looking for a crew to join due to disruption of their own unit's trek -- the perfect complement to round out our crew of eight.  Better still, the three Scouts are all in the exact same age range as our three Scouts!  Stay tuned for further details on logistics planning.
